So last week on wed we got to meet the HS Seniors from Forrest View High. It was a crazy and fun experience and it was kind of boggling just imagining that we were in their shoes not to long ago. I remember being a Senior, even a Freshman and thinking that college was so far away but now, looking back at it, it all seemed to go by pretty fast. College here has taught me how to really study, manage my time and understand that for everything you do, they're are consequences, good or bad. Study, work, eat, play and sleep - there needs to be a balance. I feel like those guys from Forrest View might come in to college and learn a few things too, about the world around them and themselves.
What have you guys learned?
The kids in my group were all going to prestegious colleges like MIT, Chapel Hill, and Duke. I think that high school success doesn't automatically translate to college success. The kids in my droup couldn't stay on topic or off their phones, so I feel like their high school is a cake walk for them and going to competitive schools like those, I don't think everything will come as easy. In high school I never really managed my time, I could finish my homework in the class before and get all A's, but now that i'm in college everything is more difficult and takes time, so managing my time is something i've had to adapt to. College is a wake up call for everyone
ReplyDeleteI learned from the Forrest View students that we all have the same pressures about going to college.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the exact same thing, and even posted it in a comment on Kedric's blog. I agree with you that college is all about balance and choosing the consequences of every action. In high school I did not truly care about my grades like I do here, and now I wish that I would have cared more then. I think college is a time to experiment with how you learn, the people you want to be with, the time of day you prefer, and the extracurricular activities you want to be apart of.
