Belief v Doubt

We live in a world were we are inundated with new information each day. New advertisement, products, songs and labels. A never ending sea of facts, opinions and things in between. Peter Elbow asks us to shift our thinking and focus it onto a new type of game, the believing game.
The believing game is where we consciously make an effort to open our mind to thoughts that we would normally filter out Although I found what he said interesting I think the doubting game does have its place. We need those filters to run and make it through our everyday lives, to stay on track. Its what keeps us focused, instead of going through every thought and idea, we try to pick up only on things that are relevant and important. What are your thoughts on these two games?

  1. I think the4 believing game and doubting game work hand in hand. Without one the other would just takeover and completely tarnish the way we think for ourselves.

  2. I think that each game has its own place. The doubting game is great for finding flaws in a concept while the believing game helps to think of all the positives of something. Each one is a little drastic for me so lets try the I might believe game.

  3. I definitely agree that the believing game has its place. While sometimes it is good to accept a writers piece as reality, it is also sometimes necessary to critique imperfections. If a writer is looking to improve his or her writing, the believing game is useless, while the doubting game is beneficial. However, pieces read in leasure should not be criticized and the believing game is appropriate.

  4. I think that the believing game is a great way to get our thoughts and ideas generating. I see what you mean by how we have to also keep in mind the doubting game. If we don't the believing game could take over and sometimes you wouldn't realize what you may have just said. Like you said, we need those filters.
